What shipment density means

Density is the shipment weight divided by the shipment cube. In LTL freight, it is one of the inputs used to estimate freight class and compare how much space the shipment occupies against its weight.

How this estimate works

The calculator converts inches to cubic feet, applies quantity, divides total weight by total cube, and maps the result to a density-based class scale.

Classification caveat

This is a density-based estimate. Actual NMFC class can also be affected by commodity, handling, stowability, and liability. Confirm class when those factors matter.
